RIBBON, FLAGGING, SURVEYOR’S
(PLASTIC, PLAIN COLORS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this Commercial Item Description, for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE AND CLASSIFICATIONS
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description covers plain colored plastic ribbon for use as a flagging marker in field survey work and for otherwise designating or identifying specific outdoor objects and locations.
1.2 Classification. Flagging ribbon shall be furnished in the following colors:
Red- r
Orange- o
Yellow- y
Blue- b
White- w
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Description. Plastic flagging ribbon shall be fabricated from flexible vinyl plastic film. Plasticizers used shall be appropriate for the ribbons to remain supple at minus 20 degrees F (minus 29 degrees C), when tested in accordance with 5.1.3. The ribbon shall be embossed. The color shall be as specified in the procurement documents.
2.1.1 Dimensions. Prior to embossing, the plastic film shall have a measured thickness between 0.0020 (0.005 cm) and 0.0040 (0.010 cm) inch (2.0 and 4.0 mil); the finished thickness after embossing shall measure between 0.0025 (0.006 cm) and 0.0050 (0.012 cm) inch (2.5 and 5.0 mil). Width of ribbon shall be 1-3/16 inches (3.01 cm), plus or minus 1/32 inch (0.079 cm). Each roll shall contain 100 yards (91.44 meters, plus 5 yards (4.57 meters)/ minus 0 yards (0 meters), of plastic ribbon.
